Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 8
In today’s passage, Apostle was addressing how believers should use their freedom in Christ. Some felt free to eat food sacrificed to idols because they understood that idols were powerless. Others, shaped by their past, felt deeply troubled by it. But Paul responded by telling them that love matters more than knowledge. Christian maturity is not measured by what we know but by how we care for one another.
Here are four truths from today’s passage

Knowledge without love can make us careless. “Knowledge puffs up while love builds up.” Knowledge is important but when being right becomes more important than being loving, we lose the heart of Christ. True maturity is humble, gentle, and attentive to others.

Freedom is real but love shapes how we use it. “We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world.” Paul agrees with the “strong” believers: idols have no real power. But he also knows that not everyone carries the same history or clarity. As believers, our freedom is a gift to steward. Love always asks, how will my choices affect the people around me?

Our example can either strengthen or stumble someone.
“Be careful… that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak.” What feels harmless to us may feel devastating to someone else. Our lives preach louder than our words. As believers, we must pay attention to the impact of our actions on others.
- Love is willing to lay something down for the sake of another. “If what I eat causes my brother or sister to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again.” This is the crux of the matter. A mature believer would rather give up his/her freedom than harm someone Christ died for.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, please teach me to walk in love. Let my choices strengthen others. Shape my heart to reflect Your patient, sacrificial love.
