Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 6:12–20
In this passage, Paul addresses the Corinthians’ private lives. Some believers were using their freedom as an excuse to indulge old desires, insisting, “I have the right to do anything.” Paul response is clear: Freedom in Christ is not permission to return to bondage but the power to live in a way that honors God. Our bodies are sacred spaces where God dwells. We are called to live with a deep awareness of who we belong to and what our bodies were made for.
Here are three truths from today’s passage:
-
Freedom in Christ is shaped by purpose, not preference. Christian freedom is not the freedom to do whatever we want. It is the freedom to choose what leads to life. It is not everything that is permissible that is good for the soul. True freedom is the ability to say no to what enslaves and yes to what strengthens.
-
Our bodies matter because they belong to the Lord. Our body is not irrelevant to spiritual life. God cares about our bodies because He created them, redeemed them, and will one day raise them. What we do with our bodies is an act of worship. Every choice is an opportunity to honor the One who made us His own.
-
We are temples of the Holy Spirit. This is one of the most intimate truths in Scripture. God does not merely visit us; He dwells in us. This reality gives dignity to our physical lives and weight to our decisions. We are not our own. We were bought with the precious blood of Christ. Therefore, our bodies are not tools for self-expression but vessels for God’s glory.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, thank You that my body belongs to You. Help me use my freedom wisely and choose what leads to life. Let my whole life reflect Your glory.
