Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 5:6–8

Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 1 Corinthians 5:7

In today’s passage, Apostle Paul uses the image of yeast to show how a small amount of tolerated sin can influence an entire community. But he does not only tell the Corinthians what to remove. He reminds them who they already are. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed. Because of Him, we are a new people called to live in a new way.

Here are three truths from today’s passage:

  1. Small compromises can spread. A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough. Sin that is ignored rarely stays contained. It shapes habits, relationships, and communities. God calls us to deal honestly with what threatens spiritual health.

  2. Our new life is rooted in Christ’s sacrifice. Paul does not say, “Become a new batch.” He says, “as you really are.” Christ’s sacrifice has already created a new identity for us. We remove the old because it no longer matches who we are in Him.

  3. The new life is marked by sincerity and truth. Paul contrasts the old yeast of malice and wickedness with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. The Christian life is not performance. It is a life of integrity, where the heart and actions are aligned with Christ.

This passage invites us to live from our new identity. Christ has been sacrificed. The old life has lost its claim. We are called to remove what corrupts and celebrate the feast with sincerity, truth, and gratitude.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, thank You that Christ has been sacrificed for me. Please remove every old pattern that does not reflect my new life in You.
