Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:16–23

All things are yours,  whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas[c] or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours,  and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God. 1 Corinthians 3:21–23

In today’s passage, Apostle Paul lifts the Corinthians out of their small arguments and reminds them of their true identity. They had been dividing themselves around leaders, but Paul shows them that they already possess something far greater: they are God’s temple, God’s people, and Christ’s own. Their identity is not found in who they follow but in whom they belong to.

Here are three truths from today’s passage:

  1. God’s Spirit lives among His people. Paul says, “You are God’s temple.” This is both personal and communal. The church is not ordinary. God Himself dwells among His people. Division, pride, and rivalry are serious because they damage what God has made holy.

  2. Worldly wisdom cannot define spiritual reality. What the world calls wise may be foolish before God. Human systems often celebrate self-promotion, competition, and status. But God’s wisdom leads us toward humility, surrender, and dependence on Christ. We must be willing to become “fools” in the world’s eyes in order to become truly wise in God.

  3. We do not belong to leaders; we belong to Christ. Paul turns their slogans upside down. They were saying, “I belong to Paul” or “I belong to Apollos.” Paul says all these servants are gifts for their good. They do not belong to the leaders. The leaders belong to them, and they belong to Christ.

This passage invites us to live from a place of belonging. We do not need to compete for identity or attach ourselves to personalities. We are God’s temple. We are Christ’s own. Everything finds its proper place when we remember whom we belong to.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, thank You that I belong to You. Please free me from comparison and misplaced loyalty. Help me honor Your presence in me and in Your people.
