Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:5–9

In today’s passage, Apostle Paul gently redirects the Corinthians’ attention away from their favorite leaders and back to God Himself. They had begun comparing Apollos and Paul, as though spiritual growth came from human personalities. Paul reminds them that leaders are only servants. One plants, another waters, but God alone gives the growth. This truth brings freedom. It releases us from comparison, pressure, and the need for recognition.

Here are three truths from today’s passage:

  1. God’s servants are instruments, not the source. Paul and Apollos each had a role. One planted the seed, another watered it. But neither had the power to make life grow. Human leaders can teach, encourage, and guide, but only God can transform the heart. Our confidence must rest in Him alone.

  2. Every role matters, but no role deserves worship. Paul refuses to compete with Apollos. Each servant will be rewarded according to their own labor. God sees faithfulness, not visibility. Whether your role feels public or hidden, your work matters when it is offered to God.

  3. We are God’s field and God’s building. The church belongs to God. Our lives are His work in progress. We do not belong to personalities, movements, or platforms. We belong to the One who plants, waters, and brings every good thing to maturity.

This passage invites us to rest in God’s work. We can serve faithfully without trying to control outcomes. We can honor leaders without idolizing them. We can trust that growth comes from God, and He is faithful to complete what He begins.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, please fix my eyes on You. Teach me to honor those who serve without placing them above Christ. Give me grace to be faithful in my role and trust You to bring the growth.
