Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 3:1–4
In today’s passage, Apostle Paul tells the Corinthians that he could not address them as mature believers because their lives were still shaped by jealousy, rivalry, and comparison. Their divisions were signs of spiritual immaturity. Paul is inviting them to grow. He wants them to see that the gospel does not only saves us but also shapes us, moving us from childish patterns into Christ-like maturity.
Here are three truths from today’s passage:

Spiritual maturity is measured by character, not just knowledge. The Corinthians had spiritual gifts, insight, and teaching, yet Paul calls them infants in Christ. Why? Because maturity is not about what we know but how we live out what we know. Jealousy, pride, and rivalry reveal a heart still shaped by the world. Growth in Christ shows up in humility, patience, and love.

Immaturity shows itself in how we relate to others. The Corinthians’ conflicts were symptoms of a heart not yet surrendered to the Spirit’s shaping. When comparison drives us, when rivalry defines us, when jealousy fuels us, we are living from the flesh, not the Spirit. Our relationships reveal our spiritual condition more clearly than our words.

Christ frees us from comparison and calls us into unity. In Christ, we are freed from the need to prove ourselves or attach ourselves to personalities. Maturity grows when Christ becomes our center, and His Spirit shapes our identity. Unity becomes possible when comparison gives way.
Today’s passage invites us to examine the places where immaturity still lingers in our hearts. The Spirit is patient. He grows us. He forms Christ in us. And He leads us from rivalry into unity, from jealousy into joy and from childishness into maturity.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, please grow me into maturity. Shape my character by Your Spirit, and teach me to walk in humility, unity, and love.
