Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 2:11–16
In today’s passage, Apostle Paul shows the Corinthians that God’s wisdom cannot be grasped through human effort. The Corinthians were tempted to evaluate spiritual truth through human intellect, eloquence, and cultural sophistication but Paul reminds them that spiritual understanding is made possible by the Spirit of God. The Spirit opens our eyes, shapes our discernment, and teaches us to see with the mind of Christ. Without the Spirit, we remain limited by our own perspective, unable to truly comprehend the mysteries of God.
Here are three truths from today’s passage:
-
Only the Spirit reveals the depths of God. Human wisdom can observe, analyze, and speculate, but it cannot uncover the heart of God. Spiritual truth comes by revelation. The Spirit alone knows the depths of God and He alone can make those depths known to us.
-
We have received the Spirit so we can understand what God has given. Spiritual understanding is freely given by God. The Spirit helps us grasp grace, recognize God’s gifts, and see the world through a new lens. What once seemed foolish now becomes precious. What once seemed hidden now becomes clear.
-
The mind of Christ shapes how we discern and live. The Spirit forms within us the mind of Christ; His humility, His discernment, His priorities and His way of seeing. Spiritual maturity is about becoming more like Christ. With the mind of Christ, we learn to judge rightly, love deeply, and walk wisely.
Today’s passage invites us to listen to the Spirit as we journey on in life. We do not navigate life by human insight alone. We walk with the One who knows the heart of God and shapes us to think, discern, and live with the mind of Christ.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, please open my heart to the things of Your Spirit. Teach me to see with the mind of Christ and shape my thoughts, desires, and decisions according to Your wisdom.
