Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:10–17
In today’s passage, Paul addresses one of the church’s deepest wounds: division. The Corinthians were gathering around personalities, preferences, and gifted leaders, allowing their loyalties to fracture their fellowship. Paul does not dismiss their differences, but he calls them back to Christ. Our unity is not meant to rest on human leaders but on the One who was crucified for us. Paul’s appeal is gentle but firm: let Christ, not preference, shape your community.
Here are three truths from today’s passage:

Unity is a calling, not a convenience. Paul urges the believers toward a unity rooted in shared conviction and shared devotion to Christ. This unity is neither uniformity nor the absence of disagreement. It is the commitment to place Christ above personal preference. Unity is something we pursue because it reflects the heart of the One who saved us.

Division grows when we elevate people above Christ. The Corinthians were attaching themselves to gifted leaders, turning admiration into allegiance. Paul reminds them that no human leader was crucified for them. No pastor, teacher, or mentor can take the place of Christ. Jesus alone deserves our devotion.

The power of the gospel rests in Christ, not human skill. Paul refuses to build his ministry on personality or rhetorical brilliance. The gospel’s power does not depend on human wisdom but on divine truth. Christ is the message, and Christ is the power behind the message. When He is central, everything else finds its proper place.
Today’s passage invites us to examine our loyalties and our loves. Are we gathering around Christ or around personalities? Are we shaped by the gospel or by preference? Unity is possible when Christ is our center, and His cross is our anchor.
