Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:32–40

Women received back their dead, raised to life again. There were others who were tortured, refusing to be released so that they might gain an even better resurrection. Hebrews 11:35

Today’s passage continues to list names of people showed great faith: Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, the prophets. Their stories are diverse, their personalities wildly different, but one thread binds them together: their faith endured when the odds were impossible.

Here are three truths from today’s passage

  1. Faith empowers ordinary people to do extraordinary things. The heroes listed here were not flawless. Gideon doubted. Barak hesitated. Samson was impulsive. David failed morally. Yet God used them because they trusted Him. God delights to work through imperfect people who lean on His strength.

  2. Faith endures suffering with unshakable hope. Some conquered kingdoms, shut the mouths of lions, and escaped the sword. Others were tortured, imprisoned, stoned, sawn in two, or forced to wander in deserts and caves. Faith is not measured by earthly outcomes. Some saw miracles; others saw martyrdom. Both were commended by God. Faith is not proven by success but by steadfast trust.

  3. Faith looks forward to God’s ultimate fulfillment. The heroes of old lived and died waiting for Christ. We live on the other side of His coming, yet we too wait for the fullness of His kingdom. Their story is incomplete without ours. God is weaving a single, unified story of redemption.

This passage calls us to a rugged, resilient faith. A faith that stands firm in triumph and in trial, a faith that refuses to quit, a faith that sees beyond this world to the better thing God has prepared.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, please give me a faith that endures against all odds. Strengthen me in weakness and make my life part of the story You are writing through Your people.
