Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:17–22
By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son Hebrews 11:17
Today’s passage shows faith at its most costly and most courageous. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph each faced moments where faith required surrender, surrender of control, surrender of outcomes, surrender of what was most precious. Their stories reveal that mature faith is about laying down. This kind of faith trusts God not only with the journey but with the future itself.
Here are two truths from today’s passage

Faith trusts God with what is most precious. “By faith Abraham… offered up Isaac.” Abraham believed that God could even raise the dead if necessary. He trusts God deeply. Faith surrenders not because it understands everything, but because it knows God’s character. When God asks for what we treasure, He is asking us to trust Him completely.

Faith holds onto God’s promises even when circumstances contradict them. Joseph, at the end of his life, spoke of the exodus of His people long before it happened. He made Israel swear to carry his bones out of Egypt as a physical reminder that God’s promises would not fail. Faith refuses to let present conditions define future expectations. It remembers what God has said and lives as though His word is already fulfilled.
This passage invites us into a deeper, surrendered faith, a faith that trusts God with what we love and holds onto His promises even when the evidence is not yet visible. Faith that surrenders is anchored in the God who always keeps His word.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, please teach me to trust You with what I hold dear and surrender fully to You. Give me a faith that clings to Your promises even when they seem distant.
