Scripture Reading: Hebrews 7:11–28

“Because Jesus lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood.” Hebrews 7:24

In today’s passage, we see that the old priesthood could never bring perfection, and therefore a new priest, and a new covenant, was needed. Jesus is that priest. His priesthood is superior in every way: in power, in permanence, in purity, and in the kind of salvation He provides. This is why Jesus is the only priest we will ever need.

Here are three truths from today’s passage

  1. The old priesthood could not make anyone perfect. The Levitical system could not bring true righteousness. It dealt with symptoms, not the root. It repeated sacrifices endlessly because sin was never fully removed. The law made nothing perfect, it only revealed our need.

  2. Jesus brings a better hope because He brings us to God. A new priest means a new covenant. Jesus’ priesthood is based not on ancestry but on the power of an indestructible life. He is the guarantee of a better covenant; one that brings us near to God, not through rituals, but through relationship. He doesn’t just cover sin; He removes it.

  3. Jesus’ priesthood is permanent, perfect, and personal. Because Jesus lives forever, His priesthood never ends. He is holy, blameless, pure, unlike any earthly priest. And He intercedes for us continually. His salvation is complete because His ministry is unending. He saves “to the uttermost”: fully, finally and forever.

This passage invites us to rest in the sufficiency of Jesus. We do not need another mediator. We do not need another sacrifice. We do not need another system. We have a perfect High Priest whose ministry never fails and whose covenant never fades.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, thank You for giving me a High Priest who is perfect, permanent, and powerful. Please help me rest in the better hope He brings and trust the salvation He provides.
