Scripture Reading: Hebrews 4:14–16

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence…” Hebrews 4:16

In today’s passage, the writer of Hebrews turns our eyes to the One who stands between us and the Father – Jesus, our Great High Priest. He is not distant, detached, or indifferent. He is the One who knows our weaknesses, who understands our struggles, and yet invites us boldly into God’s presence.

Here are three truths from today’s passage

  1. Jesus represents us perfectly before the Father. He is our Great High Priest. He is our living, reigning advocate with ongoing intercession for us. We are never unrepresented in heaven. As we face the challenges of life, we do so, assured that He stands before the Father on our behalf, bridging the gap between our frailty and God's holiness.

  2. Jesus Understands Our Weakness. Jesus is intimately familiar with the struggles we face in life. He knows what it is like to feel exhausted, to be under pressure, to be misunderstood, and to encounter temptation. Because He has lived among us and faced the same challenges, He is able to meet us with deep compassion.

  3. We can approach God with confidence and not fear. Because of Jesus, the throne is no longer a place of judgment. It is rather a throne of grace. We come boldly, not because we are strong, but because He is merciful. We come freely, not because we are worthy, but because Jesus made a way. And when we come, we receive mercy for our failures and grace for our needs.

This passage invites us to draw near to the throne of grace with confidence. The throne of grace is open, and the High Priest is waiting. We are encouraged to lay aside our hesitations and burdens, knowing that every need, fear, and sorrow can be brought before Him who listens and cares deeply for us. In this place of grace, we find not only acceptance but also the strength and help we need to persevere. Jesus’ presence at the throne means we are never alone on our journey.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, thank You for Jesus, my Great High Priest. Please help me come boldly to Your throne, trusting in Your mercy and unfailing grace.
