Scripture Reading: Hebrews 3:7–19
“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts…” Hebrews 3:7–8
In today’s passage, the writer of Hebrews gives us a sobering and urgent warning using Israel’s wilderness story. This generation saw God’s power, heard His voice, and experienced His provision, yet still hardened their hearts. Their problem wasn’t lack of evidence; it was lack of trust. They drifted into unbelief, and unbelief closed the door to God’s rest. Our passage today reminds us that the danger is still present.
Here are three truths from today’s passage

God still speaks; we must listen. God is always speaking, always drawing, always inviting us. His arms are always open for us to come closer to Him. It is important that we do not harden our heart. A hardened heart is not formed in a moment. It forms slowly, through resistance, neglect, and unbelief. We must daily choose a tender, responsive and yielding heart.

Unbelief is the root of spiritual wandering. Israel didn’t miss God’s rest because of weakness. They missed it because of unbelief. They saw miracles yet doubted God’s character. They heard His voice yet resisted His leading. Unbelief always leads to wandering, worry, and spiritual exhaustion.

We guard our hearts through encouragement and community. The writer urges believers to encourage one another daily so that no one is hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. Isolation breeds unbelief but community strengthens faith. We help each other stay tender, responsive, and anchored in God’s promises.
This passage invites us to listen deeply and guard our hearts intentionally. God’s rest is still available. His voice is still calling. The question is whether our hearts will remain soft enough to respond.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, please keep my heart soft before You. Protect me from unbelief and help me respond to Your voice with trust, humility, and obedience.
