Scripture Reading: Hebrews 2:5–18

“He is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. 12 He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers and sisters” Hebrews 2:11-12

In today’s passage, the writer of Hebrews draws us into the heart of salvation; Jesus became like us. The One who is higher than angels stepped lower than angels. The One who created humanity entered humanity. The One enthroned in glory took on flesh, suffering, and death so He could bring many sons and daughters to glory. And in doing so, He became our merciful and faithful Brother. He is fully God, yet fully human, able to help us in every weakness.

Here are three truths from today’s passage

  1. Jesus became human so He could bring us into glory. He did not come merely to rescue us from sin. He came to restore us to the glory we were created for. He tasted death for everyone so that we could taste life. Jesus became like us so that we can become like Him.

  2. Jesus is not ashamed to call us family. This is one of the most tender truths in Scripture. The holy, eternal Son of God calls us brothers and sisters. He identifies with us, stands with us, and represents us before the Father. He is near, present, and unashamed to call us His own.

  3. Jesus helps us because He understands our weakness. He shared our humanity. He faced temptation. He endured suffering. He knows what it feels like to be weary, wounded, and tested. Because He suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help us when we are tempted. His mercy is not theoretical but experiential.

This passage invites us to draw near to Jesus with confidence. He is not only our Savior and King but also our merciful Brother, our faithful High Priest, and our ever-present Helper. He knows us, understands us, and stands with us in every struggle. Jesus is for us!

Pray with me: Dear Lord, thank You for sending Jesus to share my humanity. Thank You that He is not ashamed to call me family. Please help me trust His mercy, lean on His strength, and follow His example.
