Scripture Reading: Hebrews 2:1–4
“How shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?” Hebrews 2:3
In today’s passage, the writer of Hebrews turns our attention to the message of salvation itself. He describes it as great. It is great because of the One who accomplished it. It is great because of the price that was paid, and great because of the eternal life it brings. The writer went ahead to give us a sober warning: don’t drift. Drifting often happens through neglect; quietly, slowly and subtly. The writer knows that when our attention shifts from Jesus, our hearts begin to drift from Him. The message of salvation is too great, too costly, and too glorious to treat casually.
Here are three truths from today’s passage

Salvation is too great to treat casually. This salvation was announced by Jesus Himself, confirmed by eyewitnesses, and validated by the Holy Spirit. It is the greatest message ever spoken. To ignore it is to overlook the very thing our souls were created for. Today’s passage calls us to take the message of salvation seriously, to treasure it, and to guard it.

Drifting happens when we stop paying attention. When we drift away from God, it is often through neglect. A distracted heart becomes a drifting heart. The writer calls us to intentional focus, to anchor ourselves in the truth that we have heard.

God Himself confirms the truth of the gospel. Signs, wonders, miracles, and spiritual gifts all testify that the message is true. The gospel is not theory; it is reality backed by heaven. This is why we are invited to respond with reverence and gratitude, recognizing that our faith does not rest on empty words but on the living testimony of God’s power and presence.
This passage invites us to slow down, refocus, and treasure the salvation we have received. It calls us to guard our hearts from drift and anchor ourselves again in the greatness of God’s grace. We need be mindful of the subtle ways distraction can pull our attention away from what matters most.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, please awaken my heart to the greatness of Your salvation. Keep me from drifting and help me pay careful attention to Your word and Your grace.
