Scripture Reading: Ephesians 5:8–14
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.” — Ephesians 5:8
In today’s passage, Apostle Paul reminds believers of a profound truth: we are light in the Lord. Our identity has changed. Once darkness defined us, shaped us, and guided us. But now, because of Christ, light is our nature and our calling. Paul urges us to live in a way that reflects this new identity, exposing what is hidden and revealing what is true. Light doesn’t strive to shine. It simply shines because of what it is.
Here are three truths from today’s passage:

Our identity determines our lifestyle. Paul doesn’t say we were in darkness. He says we were darkness. And now we are light. This is a radical shift. The Christian life is not behavior modification; it is identity transformation. Because we are light, we walk in goodness, righteousness, and truth. Our lives become evidence of the One who changed us.

Light exposes what darkness hides. Paul calls believers to have nothing to do with “fruitless deeds of darkness,” but rather to expose them. This doesn’t mean shaming others. It means living in such a way that truth becomes visible. Light reveals reality. When we walk in integrity, purity, and honesty, darkness loses its power.

Christ awakens what was once asleep. The gospel awakens us from spiritual sleep. Christ’s light doesn’t only reveal but also revives. It calls us out of numbness, passivity, and compromise into a life fully alive in Him. As we respond to Christ’s awakening call, our hearts are stirred to pursue what truly honors Him, leaving behind the shadows of our former ways.
Today’s passage invites us to embrace our identity as children of light. To walk in what is good, true, and pleasing to the Lord. To let our lives shine in a way that exposes darkness and awakens others to the beauty of Christ.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, thank You for calling me out of darkness into Your light. Please help me walk as a child of light, reflecting Your goodness, truth, and righteousness. Shine through me so others may see Your grace.
