Scripture Reading: Ephesians 5:1–7

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children…” Ephesians 5:1

Apostle Paul continues his call to a transformed life by grounding everything in identity. We are dearly loved children. We imitate God not to earn His love, but because we already have it. The Christian life is not behavior modification. It is the overflow of belonging. As beloved children, we are, urged to walk in purity, integrity, and gratitude. The life we live reveals the love we follow.

Here are three truths from today’s passage:

  1. We imitate God because we are loved by God. Paul calls us to “follow God’s example” as children who are already loved. Love is the foundation of obedience. When we know we are cherished, we naturally reflect the One who loves us. Christ’s sacrificial love becomes the pattern for our daily walk, love that gives, serves, and lays itself down.

  2. Love and purity belong together. We are warned against sexual immorality, impurity, and greed not because God is restrictive, but because these distortions pull us away from the life of love. The new life is marked by purity of heart and integrity of desire. Instead of indulging in what corrupts, we fill our mouths and minds with thanksgiving. Gratitude becomes the language of a heart shaped by grace.

  3. Our choices reveal who we belong to. Paul speaks plainly: those who persist in impurity and idolatry show that they are not living under the kingdom of Christ. He is not condemning believers who struggle; he is warning against a lifestyle that rejects God’s ways. As children of light, our lives should reflect the character of the One we follow.

This passage invites us to walk in love, to pursue purity, and to let gratitude shape our hearts. We imitate God not out of pressure, but out of identity. We are dearly loved children, and our lives are meant to reflect the love that saved us.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, please help me walk in love as Christ loved me. Shape my desires, purify my heart, and fill my life with gratitude. Let my actions reflect that I am Your dearly loved child.
