Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:25–32

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32

In today’s passage, Apostle Paul points us to the outward expression of a transformed life. Salvation is not only about what God does in us, but also about what He produces through us. Paul gives practical instructions that show what the new self looks like in everyday relationships. These verses are a picture of Christ’s character formed in His people. Paul wants us to live in a way that reflects the grace we have received.

Here are three truths from today’s passage:

  1. Truthfulness is the foundation of community. Paul begins with a simple command: “put off falsehood and speak truthfully.” Lies fracture relationships, but truth builds trust. In Christ, we belong to one another, and honesty becomes an act of love. A renewed life speaks truth because it reflects the God of truth.

  2. Anger must be handled with wisdom. Paul acknowledges that anger is a real human emotion, but he warns us not to let it lead us into sin. Unresolved anger gives the enemy room to work. The new life deals with conflict quickly, humbly, and honestly. Peace is not the absence of emotion, but the presence of self-control shaped by the Spirit.

  3. Our words and actions must give grace, not harm. Paul calls believers to put away bitterness, rage, slander, and every form of malice. These are the old garments of the old life. Instead, we are to be kind, compassionate, and forgiving. Our words should build up, not tear down. Our posture should reflect the forgiveness we have received in Christ. We forgive because we have been forgiven. We show compassion because compassion was shown to us.

This passage invites us to let the grace of Christ shape the way we speak, respond, and relate to others. The new life is visible in our attitudes, our words, and our willingness to forgive. When we live this way, we reveal the heart of Christ to the world around us.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, please shape my words, my attitudes, and my responses. Help me put away the old patterns and walk in kindness, compassion, and forgiveness
