Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:17–24

“…to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God…” Ephesians 4:23–24

In today’s passage, Apostle Paul reminds believers that salvation is not just a change of status but also a change of lifestyle. We cannot live the way we used to live because we are no longer who we used to be. Paul contrasts the old life, shaped by futility and spiritual blindness, with the new life, shaped by truth and righteousness. He is calling us into the life Christ died to give us.

Here are three truths from today’s passage:

  1. The old life is empty and dark. Paul describes the old way of living as futile in thinking, darkened in understanding, and separated from the life of God. This is what life looks like apart from Christ; confused, restless, and spiritually numb. Paul wants us to remember this not to condemn us, but to remind us of what Christ rescued us from.

  2. The new life begins with a renewed mind. Transformation begins internally. The Spirit reshapes our thoughts, desires, and perspectives. As our minds are renewed, our lives begin to reflect Christ. New thinking leads to new living. This is why Scripture, prayer, and fellowship matter. They shape our inner life and that shapes everything else.

  3. We are called to put on the new self. Paul describes the new self as “created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” This is not self-improvement; it is Spirit-empowered transformation. Putting on the new self means choosing daily to live from our new identity. It means choosing truth over deception, purity over impurity, and righteousness over the patterns of the past.

This passage invites us to leave behind the old ways that no longer fit who we are. We are invited to allow the Spirit to renew our minds and to walk in the new life Christ has created within us; a life shaped by truth, holiness, and the character of God.

Pray with me: Dear Lord, please renew my mind and reshape my heart. Help me put off the old ways and put on the new self You created in me.
