Scripture Reading: Ephesians 1:11–14

“…when you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit…” Ephesians 1:13

Apostle Paul continues his explanation of what it means to belong to Christ. These verses are identity statements. They are not abstract theology. They tell us who we are, where we stand, and what God has already secured for us. Paul wants believers to live with a deep, unshakable confidence that our life is not random, our salvation is not fragile, and our future is not uncertain.

Here are three truths from today’s passage

  1. In Christ, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit. “When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal…” God places His Spirit in us as His mark, His declaration that we belong to Him. This seal is a mark of ownership, protection, and authenticity. We don’t have to wonder if we are accepted. We don’t have to fear being lost.

  2. The Spirit is our guarantee of a future we cannot lose. “…the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance…” The Spirit within us is the first taste of the fullness to come. He is God’s guarantee of our inheritance in Christ. We have an unshakeable assurance. Our inheritance is not wishful thinking. It is guaranteed by God Himself. We are His possession, and He will finish what He started.

  3. We live for the praise of His glory. “…that we… might be for the praise of his glory.”. Paul is reminding us that our hope in Christ becomes a living display of God’s beauty, mercy, and faithfulness. We exist to reflect Him. Our lives are not accidents. They are testimonies of God’s grace shining through us.

This passage invites us to breathe deeply, to rest in the truth that our identity is secure, our salvation is sealed, and our future is guaranteed. We are chosen, included, sealed, and kept, to the praise of His glory. The Holy Spirit Himself is our seal, the guarantee of our inheritance in Christ!
