Scripture Reading: Romans 15:1–13
“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” — Romans 15:7
In this passage, Apostle Paul moves from talking about personal beliefs to highlighting our responsibilities to one another. He explains that, through Christ, strength, freedom, and knowledge are not meant just for ourselves. Instead, as Christians, we look outward, following Christ’s example and seeking the well-being of others. Supporting each other isn’t optional; it naturally flows from a heart changed by God’s mercy.
Here are three truths from today’s passage:
Redemption calls the strong to lift the weak. Those who are strong in faith are not called to assert their strength but to carry the burdens of those who struggle. This is the opposite of pleasing ourselves. We bear with the failings of the weak, not to tolerate sin but to support struggling believers. Our goal is to help build other believers up.
Redemption produces unity that glorifies God. Paul prays that God would give believers “the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had,” so that with one mind and one voice we may glorify God. Unity is not created by uniformity but by humility. It is strengthened by choosing to build others up rather than insisting on our own way. When we accept one another as Christ accepted us, God is praised.
Redemption extends God’s mercy to all peoples. Paul reminds the church that Christ became a servant to confirm God’s promises to Israel and to extend mercy to the Gentiles. Redemption creates a multi-ethnic, multi-background people united in hope. This hope is not fragile; it is sustained by the God who fills His people with joy, peace, and overflowing hope through the Holy Spirit.
Today’s passage shows that redemption is communal. Christ’s work shapes how we treat one another, how we carry one another, and how we pursue unity. The redeemed life is marked by endurance, encouragement, and acceptance rooted in Christ’s example.
