Scripture Reading: Romans 12:9–13
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Romans 12:9–10
Paul describes what genuine Christian love looks like in practice. It is not shallow or pretended; it is sincere, rooted in goodness, and expressed in devotion to others. This love is active, shaping our relationships, our service, and our response to trials. As we walk in this love, we inspire unity within our communities, encourage those who are struggling, and offer hope in difficult times. This kind of love is transformative, both for us and for those around us.
Here are three truths about true love from today’s passage:
Love is sincere and holy. True love rejects evil and clings to what is good. It is pure and not self-serving. This kind of love goes beyond mere words or sentiment. It is demonstrated through our actions and attitudes toward others. It manifests in a lifestyle that consistently chooses what is right and upright.
Love is devoted and honoring. True love seeks the good of others, showing respect and placing their needs above our own. Such love actively pursues the well-being of others, going beyond personal comfort. It listens with empathy, offers kindness without expectation.
Love is resilient and generous. It is joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer, and generous in sharing with those in need. In the face of challenges, genuine love perseveres. It remains steadfast and compassionate even when circumstances are difficult. Hospitality is a natural expression of true love.
Today’s passage reminds us that love is the heartbeat of Christian living. It is sincere, holy, and resilient. This love is not passive. It is active, expressed in devotion, prayer, generosity, and hospitality. Such love reflects Christ Himself, who gave Himself for us and calls us to live for others.
