Scripture Reading: Romans 10:1–21
“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
Paul’s heart aches for Israel, who pursued righteousness zealously but missed its true source—Christ. Righteousness does not come through law-keeping but through faith. Salvation is simple yet profound: confess Jesus as Lord and believe in His resurrection. This message must be proclaimed, for faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Here are three truths from today’s passage:
Zeal without knowledge cannot save. True righteousness is not achieved by fervor but is received through humble faith in Christ. While Israel's devotion was sincere, it lacked the essential understanding that God's righteousness comes through faith, not works.
Christ is the fulfillment of the law. He is the culmination of God’s plan, bringing righteousness to everyone who believes. Because Christ completed what the law foreshadowed, salvation is now both near and accessible to all. No longer is it about striving to fulfill requirements or reaching up to heaven. Instead, the message is simple and within reach: confess with your mouth and believe in your heart.
Faith comes through hearing the gospel. The good news must be preached, for people cannot believe what they have not heard. God’s mercy extends even to those who were not seeking Him, yet He holds out His hands to all. This open invitation reveals the heart of the gospel: God actively reaches out to all, longing for every person to respond in faith.
Today’s passage reminds us that salvation is not complicated. It is Christ-centered, faith-driven, and universally available. The gospel is both near and powerful, bringing righteousness, hope, and life to all who believe. As we recognize the simplicity and availability of Christ’s offer, we are also called to share this hope, trusting that God’s grace can draw even the most unlikely hearts to Himself.
