Scripture Reading: Romans 6:15–23
Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? Romans 6:16
Paul reminds believers that grace calls for active surrender. Since we are dead to sin and alive to God in Christ, we must no longer let sin reign in our bodies. Instead, we are invited to present ourselves fully to God, living as instruments of righteousness.
Here are three truths from this passage:
Grace changes our allegiance. Grace shifts our loyalty from sin to righteousness. Instead of being under the control of sin, we are now called to offer every part of ourselves to God. This means our desires, habits, and choices are shaped by His will, not our old patterns. Who we serve shapes who we become.
Sin enslaves but righteousness liberates. True freedom is not found in the ability to do whatever we want, but in willingly submitting ourselves to God’s good and perfect will. In this surrendered life, we discover that obedience is not about earning God’s favor but about responding to His love and living out our new identity in Christ.
To surrender is practical and total. Paul urges us not to offer any part of ourselves to sin. Every thought, word, and action belongs to God, because holiness is whole-life devotion. We need to examine our daily choices and the influences we allow to guide our lives. We need to understand that, empowered by grace, we can resist the pull of our former ways and embrace the new identity we've received in Christ.
Today’s passage is a powerful reminder that grace calls us to become servants of righteousness, willingly presenting ourselves to God. Offering ourselves to God is not a one-time act but a daily posture. It is the conscious choice to live as those brought from death to life, letting every part of us, mind, heart and actions, be used for His glory.
