Scripture Reading: Romans 5:12–21
“For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.” Romans 5:19
In today’s passage, Paul paints a sweeping picture of humanity’s story: sin entered the world through Adam, bringing death and condemnation to all. He highlights the universal reach of Adam’s disobedience, which brought sin and death to all humanity, and the even greater power of Christ’s act of righteousness, which offers abundant grace and life to everyone who believes.
Here are three truths from today’s passage:
Adam’s trespass brought death and condemnation. Through Adam’s disobedience, sin and condemnation entered the world, and death spread to all. Adam’s disobedience introduced brokenness that touches every life.
Christ’s obedience brings righteousness and life. Through Jesus’ obedience, many are made righteous. His sacrifice does not merely cancel sin; it delivers mankind from the reign of sin and produces grace that overcome sin in us. Christ’s sacrifice overflows with grace, bringing justification and eternal life.
Grace reigns where sin once ruled. The purpose of the law is to expose sin so that see our helpless and run to God. But grace empowers us to overcome sin. Because grace triumphs over sin, we are not defined by our failures or the weight of our past. Rather we are called to walk in the dominion that grace brings over sin.
This profound exchange reveals that, while Adam’s failure introduced a legacy of brokenness for humanity. Christ’s victory establishes a new legacy; one marked by restoration and hope. The abundance of grace in Christ not only undoes the damage of sin but also offers a transformative power that overcomes sin and death and brings newness of life.
Pray with me: Dear Lord, thank You for Your grace. Please help me to live under the reign of grace, trusting in Christ’s obedience and rejoicing in the gift of eternal life.
