Scripture Reading: Romans 5:1–11
“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:1
In today’s passage, Paul declares one of the greatest blessings of the gospel: peace with God. Through faith in Christ, we are no longer enemies but reconciled, no longer condemned but justified. This peace is not fragile or fleeting, it is rooted in God’s grace, sustained by His love, and secured by Christ’s blood.
Here are three truths about today’s passage:
Justification brings peace with God. Through faith in Christ, we are reconciled with God. This reconciliation means that we can approach God with confidence, no longer hindered by guilt or fear, but welcomed as His beloved children. Peace with God gives us access to the throne of God. We can come to the Almighty without fear, trusting in the finished work of Christ.
Grace is where we stand. Faith in the finished work of Christ opens the door to grace, and we now stand secure in it. Since our justification is by grace and not a product of our effort, we can trust it will never run out. We can come boldly before God solely on the basis of His grace, trusting we will never be cast away.
We glory in suffering. We are no longer defined by our failures or sufferings. Instead, we find our identity in Christ’s victory and God’s unwavering commitment to us. Instead of seeing difficulties as something negative, we can welcome each challenge as an opportunity for God to help us grow more like Christ. We trust that every difficulty is held within His loving purpose. Our suffering becomes a testimony to His faithfulness, giving us strength to persevere and hope that is unshaken by circumstance.
