Scripture Reading: Romans 3:21–31
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Romans 3:23–24
In today’s passage, Paul shifts from the sobering reality of sin to the glorious revelation of God’s righteousness. The law shows us our brokenness, but it is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we are declared righteous before God. God has made His righteousness known through Jesus Christ. This justification is a gift, not a reward. It is rooted in God’s deep love and mercy toward all who believe.
Here are three truths from this passage:
All have sinned, all need grace. No one is exempt. We all fall short of God’s glory. The gospel levels the ground, showing our universal need for redemption. In the same vein, justification is available to everyone, regardless of background or past mistakes. It is offered to all who put their trust in Jesus.
Christ is the sacrifice of atonement. The sacrifice of Christ is the sole ground for our justification. The penalty of sin is fully paid for on the cross. The cross is where justice and mercy meet. Our justification is not based on our efforts or adherence to the law, but solely on faith in Jesus Christ.
Faith excludes boasting. Since our justification is by faith and not works., there is no room for pride. The righteousness we receive is not the result of our achievements, but the outcome of God’s loving initiative. Because of this, we approach God not with pride, but with humble gratitude, recognizing that every believer stands on equal footing before the cross.
This gift of justification transforms our relationship with God. Where guilt once separated us, grace now welcomes us into fellowship. We move from condemnation to acceptance, from striving to resting in Christ’s finished work. Such assurance empowers us to live with hope, knowing our standing before God is secure.
Pray with me: Lord, thank You for the gift of justification by faith. Keep me humble, grateful, and confident in Your grace, knowing that Christ’s sacrifice is enough for me.
