Scripture Reading: Romans 1:1–17
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.” Romans 1:16
Paul begins his letter to the Romans by outlining a comprehensive perspective on the gospel. He declared that the gospel was foretold in Scripture, realized through Christ, and stands as the central hope for humanity. At the heart of this passage is Paul’s bold confession that the gospel is God’s power to save and it’s available to all through faith, regardless of background or status.
Here are three truths from this passage:
The gospel is founded upon the promises of God. Paul emphasizes that the Goodnews was prophesied by earlier prophets and fulfilled in Jesus. The gospel represents the realization of God's longstanding plan of redemption for mankind.
The gospel is for all people. The message of salvation is not limited by ethnicity, culture, or past background. Instead, the gospel breaks down barriers, offering hope and a new identity to everyone who believes.
The gospel produces God’s righteousness in us. Through faith in the gospel, we are made right with God. This righteousness is not by works or human effort, but by trusting in Christ.
The gospel is the power of God for salvation. It is not mere words or human wisdom but the divine power that rescues, transforms, and brings eternal life. The gospel is God’s active work, saving everyone who believes.
The gospel of Christ is not as a philosophy or a moral code; rather, it represents the power of God to bring salvation. It has the capacity to transform lives, restore hope, and demonstrate God's righteousness. The gospel is accessible to everyone regardless of background or circumstance, and its invitation extends universally. Accepting the gospel involves living with assurance in the sufficiency of Christ's work and recognizing that His grace is inclusive. In all situations, the gospel calls us to stand firm in faith, knowing that hope is secured in Christ.
Pray with me: Lord Jesus, thank You for the gospel that saves and transforms. Help me to live unashamed, to trust Your power, and to walk in obedience by faith.
