Scripture Reading: John 21:15–25
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” John 21:15
After breakfast by the Sea of Galilee, Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved Him. Remember Peter is the same disciple who had denied Him. Each response was met with a command: “Feed my lambs… Take care of my sheep… Feed my sheep.” This shows true love for Christ leads to action and service.
Here are two truths from this passage: • Jesus restores the fallen. Peter had denied Jesus three times during His trial. Now, by asking Peter three times, “Do you love me?” Restoration follows repentance. Jesus didn’t ignore Peter’s denial; instead, He gently confronted it. • Love for Jesus leads to service. Each affirmation of Peter’s love is met with a commission: “Feed my lambs… Take care of my sheep… Feed my sheep.” Jesus not only forgives but entrusts us with purpose. True love for Christ is expressed in caring for His people.
Jesus restores Peter not by ignoring his failure but by transforming it into a renewed calling. Our past mistakes can become the foundation for deeper devotion and service. In Christ, failure is never the end.
