It is finished

Scripture Reading: John 19:28-42

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” John 19:30

In today’s passage, we see Jesus crucified. Hanging on the cross, knowing the works of redemption is completed, He shouted, ‘It is finished’. This solemn statement signaled that nothing more was required for our reconciliation with God. The price for sin was paid in full, offering hope and restoration to everyone who believes.

Here are two truths from this passage: • Jesus fulfilled Scripture completely. From His thirst to the piercing of His side, every detail of His suffering aligned with prophecy. Nothing was left undone. He accomplished the Father’s plan of salvation. • Jesus paid our debt in full. His cry, “It is finished,” indicates Christ triumph, even in death. This is because the work of redemption was complete. Sin’s debt was paid, and the way to eternal life was opened.

The cross was not the end; it was the completion of salvation’s work. Jesus’s final words remind and assure us that redemption is secure, finished, and sufficient.

Pray with me: Lord Jesus, thank You for finishing the work of salvation on the cross. Thank You opening the way to eternal life. Help me to live in the freedom of Your victory everyday of my life
