Scripture Reading: John 15:18–27.

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” — John 15:18

In today’s passage, Jesus prepares His followers for the reality that standing with Him would invite misunderstanding and resistance. He made it clear that this opposition is not a sign of failure, but rather a confirmation of their connection to Him.

There are two important truths from this passage:

  1. Opposition is part of discipleship. Jesus makes it clear that the world’s rejection of His followers is rooted in its rejection of Him. “A servant is not greater than his master.” (v.20). To belong to Christ is to step out of alignment with the world’s values, and that often provokes hostility.
  2. Hatred of Jesus is hatred of the Father. Jesus emphasizes that to hate or reject Him is to hate or reject the Father, for He came to reveal the Father's heart and truth to the world. The world's hostility is a refusal to accept God's love and authority.

To follow Jesus is to share both His rejection and His mission. The world may hate us, but the Spirit empowers us to stand for Jesus in the face of adversity.

Declare today: Lord Jesus, when opposition comes, anchor me in Your love, fill me with Your Spirit, and give me courage to testify about You. May my life bear witness to the truth, even when the world resists it.
