Scripture Reading: John 14:15–31.
If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.” — John 14:15–17
Today’s passage is the continuation of Jesus’ parting words to His disciples. He has spoken of leaving, and their hearts are heavy with fear. But into their anxiety, He speaks words of profound reassurance: “I will not leave you as orphans.”
Let’s consider three important truths about the Spirit of Truth:
- He is the abiding presence of God. First, the Holy Spirit’s abiding presence means that God Himself takes up residence within us, making our hearts His home. This is a continual indwelling. It is a relationship marked by intimacy and fellowship.
- He is the teacher and reminder. Secondly, the Holy Spirit acts as our divine teacher and gentle reminder. Jesus explains that the Spirit “will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (v.26)
- He is the giver of peace. Thirdly, the Holy Spirit brings us peace that surpasses circumstances and human understanding. Jesus offers His peace not as the world gives, which is often fleeting or dependent on outward situations, but as a lasting gift that calms our hearts even in the midst of trouble.
The Spirit of Truth is both gift and guide. He anchors us in obedience, empowers us in weakness, and assures us of God’s nearness.
Declare today: Spirit of Truth, dwell in me. Teach me, remind me, and steady me. Let my heart be anchored in Your peace, and my life be a witness to Your abiding presence.
