Scripture Reading: John 4:50
“Go,” Jesus replied, “your son will live.” The man took Jesus at his word and departed. John 4:50.
A nobleman sought Jesus’ help for his dying son. Jesus assured him to go because his son will live. The man believed in Jesus’ words and left.
Two important lessons from this passage.
- Jesus has authority over sickness and is not limited by distance; His word is effective anywhere and at any time. We have earlier read in the first chapter of John that Jesus is God, and all things were made through him. Jesus has authority over sickness and is not limited by location; His words are effective anytime and anywhere. As God, He created all things, is omnipresent, and His spoken words remain powerful regardless of distance or time. When we read the Bible, Jesus' words are just as relevant and impactful now as when first spoken, offering healing, restoration, and guidance. Whether it was ‘Go, your son will live.’ Or ‘I will, be made clean’ (Matthew 8:3). Or ‘I do not condemn you either. Go and sin no more’ (John 8:11), His words are living and powerful (Hebrews 4:12).
- The man took Jesus at his words and left to go home. The second astounding lesson in the passage is the reaction of the man who came to Jesus for help. He took Jesus at His help and left immediately. did not ask for further proof or insist on seeing immediate results; instead, he trusted Jesus' words completely. His faith was not passive but active—he responded to Jesus’ assurance by immediately setting out for home, trusting that what Jesus said would come to pass. His unwavering faith set the stage for the miracle that followed, showing us that genuine belief in what God says—without doubt or hesitation—can unlock divine intervention in our lives. Because the word of God will never come return to Him empty. (Isaiah 55:11).
Jesus expectation from us today is to simply believe Him because we put our trust His Person and His Power.
