And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Philippians 2:8.
Obedience is the mark of a true servant. It flows from humility and reverence, and it is the virtue that Christ displayed most profoundly on His journey to the cross.
Jesus did not obey because it was easy—He obeyed because the Father’s pleasure was paramount. His obedience was the evidence that He had laid down His reputation and will. Even when the path led through suffering, He submitted.
Obedience is not a standalone virtue. It is the fruit of humility and submission. It is the peak of Christ’s surrender and the pathway to the fullness of our calling.
Sons must learn obedience. Authority and power can make obedience feel foreign, but without it, the Father’s will cannot be fulfilled. Jesus learned obedience and became the Father’s beloved Son—not just by title, but by service.
A beloved son is a serving son. Obedience is the proof.
